The name Lamanai means submerged Crocodile. It is located at the side of the New River Lagoon. The site was occupied from 500 BC or maybe a lot earlier until 1676 AD. The site is also called Indian Church, because of a two Christian churches build in that area in the fifteen century. You can get there by a road on the dry season or by boat all year long, and that can become an adventure by itself. The site is located in the east central part of Orange Walk District. |
