Belize District is the most most populated of the country. Belize City is located in this district and the capital of the district an also the most important city of Belize. Belize City is the former capital of Belize and was it, until 1971 when it moved to a new city called Belmopan.

Even when is no longer the capital of Belize, it still is very important. Many people travel to the country’s capital Belmopan every day, even when it is located an hour away from Belize City. The main airport of the country is located here, and the cruises to Belize arrive here also.

Some of the most important attractions in Belize District are located in Belize City like:

- Baron Bliss Lighthouse and Monument

- Saint John's Anglican Cathedral

- The House of Culture

Other out of the city attractions include:

- Gales Point Village

- The Belize Zoo

- Community Babbon Sanctuary

- Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary

- Altun Ha Maya Temple

The population of Belize District is 84,200 (2004 according to City Population website ). It is the most populated district in the whole Belize.

It has an extension of 1,663 square miles (4,307 square km).

It's capital is Belize City has a population of 59,400.
