The name Altun Ha means Water of the Rock. It is located in the north-central part of the Belize District, less than an hour away from Belize City. There is a record of more than 450 buildings in the site.

The most important and best preserved structure in the site is the Temple of the Saonry Altars, where one of the largest carved jades was found in 1968, weighing 9.75 pounds. It was the head of Kinich Ahau, the sun god.
